April Fool's Day Ideas

I honestly hate April Fools Day.  I spend the entire day on pins and needles and I find it very stressful.  Constantly watching my back and questioning everything!  Last year my younger brother thought it would be funny to list our dog for sale on the internet!  He put our house number and cell numbers down and we got calls ALL DAY LONG!  So annoying!  Don't get me wrong....I like to play pranks on people, I just don't care for them done on me :)  So if your into April Fools here are some tips and tricks for you!

Try not to have too much fun!
Come back tomorrow for the Let Your Creative Tuesday Juices Flow linky party!

Interview your kids

I have noticed with having four kids that life quickly unravels and you lose every sense of being somewhat organized and on "top of things".  At least in my case anyway.  If you don't feel this way anytime, ever, please let me know your secrets :)  Mostly I feel like I have lost touch with my kids.  You know, new babies require A LOT of attention and at the end of the day leaves my poor family with, a worn out, grouchy, super tired, extremely frightening looking mom and wife (lucky them)  I am determined to not let my "Evil Psycho Mom" alter ego take over :)  Ok, no need to alert the police, I really am not THAT bad, but we could always be better right?
With all this rambling being said I have decided to do interviews with my kids once a week.  Once I tuck their cute little selves into bed, I will sit and ask them a few of these questions...

1. Tell me the five best things about you…
2. What does the word "success" mean to you?
3. Why do kids put rings in their eyebrows and nose?
4. If you could tell me never to serve two vegetables again, which two would you choose?
5. Who do you think I'd rather you be: an NBA ballplayer, the mayor, a famous explorer, or a movie star? Why?
6. Which of your friends do you think I like the most? Why?
7. On a scale of one to nine – one being not at all and nine being totally – how strict do you think I am? Where on the scale would you like me to be? (Parents: you can draw this on paper to make it easier for smaller children.)
8. What would be the ideal allowance? Tell me how you would use it.
9. Who was the worst teacher you ever had? Tell me why.
10. What would the ideal teacher be like?
11. If you had to have one of these, which would pick – and why? Really long nose hairs, hair in your ears, hair above your lip, massively hairy armpits!
12. How much privacy would you like? What time of the day would you like to be alone, and why?
13. Which one of our friends is the funniest looking? Why?
14. If you could arrange it, what time would I come home from work? Then, what would we do together?
15. Can you think of any clothes that I should never put on again? Why?
16. Do you think I drink too much? Have I ever embarrassed you that way?
17. Which of the following choices do you think would be best, and why?
  1. Dinner with everyone at the table and the TV on with your favorite program
  2. Dinner in which everybody took what they wanted from the fridge and no one had the same thing
  3. Dinner with the whole family together and no TV on
18. If a genie would give you only one wish, which would you pick, and why?
  1. being world-class attractive
  2. being a genius
  3. being famous for doing something great
19. If you are feeling sad, what meal that I could make or order would be the one that would cheer you up?
20. Are you afraid when we fly?
21. Tell me who you think are the three greatest musicians in the world? Why?
22. What punishment have I given you that you thought was really unfair? Why?
23. If you could change three things about yourself, what would they be?
24. At what age do you think a child ought to be tried as an adult if he has hurt someone very badly? Why?
25. If you could have your room anyway you wanted, how would you want it to look?

I really am looking forward to this and getting to really KNOW my kids!  I think having these simple, open conversations will really teach them that they can talk to me anytime, anyplace about anything.  That's my hope anyway.  They are not teenagers yet so.... lol.  There is a total of 100 questions and I will be posting them later on at different times.

I would love to know what ideas you all do to connect with your kids....please share in the comments!
Have a wonderful Monday!

A St. Patrick's Day of Fun

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

We spent our morning on a fun treasure hunt!  This Leprechaun had us running all over...

This pot of gold was worth the hunt....full of all sorts of yummies.  My kids favorite chips, Lucky Charm bars, Reese's cups, Rolos and other junk :)  They were thrilled to say the least!

Then we walked into the kitchen to see this...

Lots of little Leprechaun feet.  At least he left a treat!

And you won't believe what he left in the toilet....I guess when you have to go, you have to go!
My kids laughed their head off :)

He couldn't leave without leaving a few more messes...

Did the little green man make it to your house?

Where did I find those adorable clues and bag toppers you ask?  Right here.

A Pintrest St. Patty's Day

WOW!  It's St. Patrick's Day tomorrow?!  Do you need some last minute ideas for the kiddos?
Here are some of my favorites from Pintrest.

If you would like even more St. Patrick's Day ideas take a look at my Pintrest St. Patty's Day board!

Happy Pinching!

Wall art made out of toilet paper rolls....really?!

I think my family thought I was crazy when I told them if they saw an empty toilet paper roll to please save it for me.  I know this because the only one who brought me the rolls was my 7 year old.  She would carry one into me and say "Mom.  Whatever your doing with these it's gonna be awesome!"  It turned into a game for her and she would ask her siblings if they needed to go to the bathroom because there was only a tiny bit of toilet paper on the roll to be used up and then she could give one to me...lol...I love that girl!

Ok, so here's what I have been up to after saving all these rolls for over 3 months now...

1. Gather supplies (toilet paper rolls, clothespins, glue gun)
2.  Smash rolls

3.  Once you have all the rolls smashed cut them into equal pieces.  I ended up getting about 6 pieces.  You will need 5 per flower.  So one roll will make one flower.
4.  Start to glue the petals together.

5.  Finished flowers

6.  Start to take the flower and arrange and glue them together to your liking.  I like clothes pinning them even though it was hot glue.  That way I wouldn't have to sit and hold it until it cooled down.
7.  If you have single pieces left over glue them wherever you would like.

And there you have it.  Some fun wall art.  You could definitely paint these to match any room.

Here are some other examples of peoples wall art using toilet paper rolls...

The hardest part is knowing when to stop gluing :)

Also, in case you didn't notice I am in the process of a blog redo.  I still need to add in a navigation bar and redo my buttons so please bear with me :)
Have fun and have a great weekend!

Cake Batter Yumness!

Are you ready for the most amazing treat to ever hit your lips....ok I exaggerate a little, but this is oh so yummy.  I'm sure many of you have seen this floating around Pintrest along with a bunch of other amazing looking cake batter treats (they will be posted at the end)

Here is all you will need.  This is so easy!

Voila!  Every time I make this my kids jump for joy!

Here is the recipe...

Chex Funfetti Cake Batter Buddies

Ingredients:
5 cups Rice Chex cereal
10 oz (5 squares) vanilla flavored Almond Bark
1 1/2 cups Funfetti cake mix (any kind of cake mix would work)
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vegetable shortening

Directions:
1. Melt Almond Bark according to the package directions, adding vegetable shortening to thin (I heard that you can make it without the shortening, but it worked great for me to use it).
2. Pour the cereal into a large bowl and drizzle the melted Almond Bark over the cereal. Mix gently with a large spoon or spatula.
3. Dump the cake mix and powdered sugar onto the cereal and mix gently with large spoon until all the cereal is evenly coated.

I do have to say, I felt as though there was a ton of powdery mixture stuff at the bottom of the bowl once you were finished mixing.  Just a fair warning.  And my kiddos LOVE sprinkles and in the cake batter they come with a few, but my kids like to sprinkle more sprinkles right after you put the melted almond bark in.  This way it sticks to the cereal and then add your powdered mixture!

Here are some other yummy cake batter treats...

Vase makeovers

Are you sitting down?  It has been a looooong time since I actually sat down to do something crafty....and I finally made time to do a super quick, super easy, super cheap craft project.  I'm sure you have seen the painted vases floating around Pintrest.  I gathered up some dollar store vases (I did get mine at Dollar Tree) and made up these pretties.

The idea came from the adorable blog

And if your wondering about the vase in the back, I actually found this hideous looking vase (it was this awful red color) at Pier 1 and all I did was hot glue jute around the entire thing....it's one of my favorite pieces in the house!  So there ya go, some really inexpensive ways to spice up your home :)
